Buy a device from a customer
Buy a phone or other device at the counter, with the seller's ID and signature, and pay in cash, e-transfer or store credit.
When someone wants to sell you their device, Buy from a customer records everything a second-hand dealer needs to keep: the device, who sold it, their ID, what you paid and their signature. The device goes into your used-device stock on hold, and the buy goes in the buy log.
Owners, managers and the front desk can buy devices. Technicians can't.
1. The device
- Open Used devices and select Buy from a customer.
- Pick the Kind, then enter the Make, Model and, for phones and computers, Storage.
- Add the Colour and Battery health % if you know them.
- Enter the IMEI (dial
*#06#on the phone) or the Serial number. One of them is required. - Look the device up on devicecheck.ca using the link, then record the result: Checked, it's clear, It's listed as lost or stolen, or leave it Not checked.
- Pick the Condition, A to D. Each grade shows what your price list pays for this model.
- Add Photos of the device if you like.
As soon as you enter the IMEI or serial, OnSite checks it against devices you've had before. You'll see Not bought here before, or a warning with the earlier record.
2. The seller
- Search for the customer by name, phone or email, or select Add a new customer and enter their name and phone.
- Under Their ID, pick Government photo ID or Two pieces of ID. With two pieces, the second can't be a bank card.
- Enter each ID's type and number.
- Enter their Gender, Eye colour and Hair colour.
- Add a Photo of the ID. Only owners and managers can see it later.
- Tick They're 18 or over and The serial number and IMEI aren't altered or removed. Both are required.
3. Paying them
- Enter the Offer. It starts from your price list for the model and condition.
- Owners and managers can also set Sell it for, or leave it for later.
- Pick how they're paid under Paid by: Cash, E-transfer or Store credit. Store credit shows your bonus, such as (+10%).
- Add Notes for marks, scratches or what came with it.
- Have the seller sign on screen.
- Select the buy button, which reads like Buy for $120.00 cash.
The front desk can offer up to the price list's amount. Owners and managers can pay more. Prices are set in Buying devices settings.
What happens when you buy it
- A new seller is added as a customer.
- The device joins Used devices with a UD number, at a cost of what you paid.
- It's on hold until the date shown, and can't be sold, returned or scrapped until then.
- The buy is saved with a B- number in the buy log, with the ID, photos and signature.
- Store credit, with the bonus, goes straight onto the seller's account.
- Cash you paid out comes off the drawer's expected cash at the end of the day.
The confirmation offers Print hold tag for the device's bin. If no selling price was set, an owner or manager can add one on the device's Edit tab before the hold ends.
