Payment methods, taxes and cash rounding

Choose the ways you take money and what they're called, set your taxes, due days, cash float and nickel rounding.

Settings › Invoicing and taxes controls what every invoice charges and says, and how you take money. Owners and managers can change it. Changes apply to everyone at the store straight away, for invoices made from then on.

Make your changes, then choose Save invoicing at the bottom.

Ways to pay

Each way of taking money has a switch and a name: Cash, Debit, Credit card, e-Transfer, Cheque and Other.

  • Turn a method off and it disappears from the payment windows and the Sales page.
  • Type a new name to call it what your shop calls it, such as Interac e-Transfer or Visa/Mastercard.

Your names show everywhere a payment does: on screen, on printed invoices, receipts and reports. At least one method has to stay on. Payments already taken keep their method.

Gift cards and store credit aren't on this list. They come from the customer's account and appear when the customer has some to spend.

Taxes

List each tax with its Name and Rate %, such as GST at 5. Choose Add a tax for another, or the bin icon to take one away. A line you add by hand starts with every tax on the list, and you can turn any of them off for that line.

Existing invoices keep the rates they were made with.

Round cash to the nearest 5 cents

Canada has no pennies, so OnSite can round cash the way your till does. With Round cash to the nearest 5 cents on, cash that pays off a balance is rounded: $190.52 becomes $190.50 in cash. It's on unless you turn it off.

  • The Take payment window shows the rounded figure when you pick Cash.
  • The invoice is fully paid, with the rounding shown on its balance card and payment.
  • Part of a balance paid in cash is taken exactly, with no rounding.
  • Cards and other methods are never rounded.

Terms and the drawer

  • Due in (days): how long a customer has to pay before an unpaid invoice shows as overdue.
  • Cash float: what you keep in the drawer overnight. The end-of-day count starts from it. See End of day and the cash drawer.
  • Invoice terms: printed at the foot of every invoice.
