Card payments online and pay links
Connect your own Stripe account so customers can pay an invoice by card from a link or a code they scan.
Let customers pay by card on their own phone. Once you connect your Stripe account, every invoice with a balance gets a pay link. Send it by email or text, or have the customer scan a code at the counter. The payment lands on the invoice the moment it goes through.
The money goes straight to your Stripe account and then your bank. It's separate from how you pay for OnSite.
Connect Stripe
Owners and managers can do this. You need a Stripe account, which is free to open at stripe.com.
- Go to Settings › Card payments.
- Copy the Webhook address shown on the page.
- In Stripe, open Developers › Webhooks and add an endpoint. Paste the address as the endpoint URL and choose the event
checkout.session.completed. - Copy the endpoint's signing secret from Stripe into Webhook signing secret.
- From Stripe's Developers › API keys, copy your secret key into Secret key.
- Choose Connect Stripe.
The page then shows Connected to and your Stripe account's name. If you used Stripe's test keys, it says Test mode, and no real money moves.
To stop taking cards online, choose Disconnect Stripe. Links you've already sent stop offering card payment. Paid invoices stay paid.
Send a pay link
Open an invoice with a balance. The Pay by card online card shows a code and the amount owing.
- Have the customer scan the code with their phone camera.
- Choose Email it to send the link to their email address.
- Choose Copy link to paste it into a text or anywhere else.
- Choose Open to see the page the customer sees.
The receipt and invoice you email or text from OnSite also link to the invoice's page, where the customer can pay.
What the customer sees
The pay page shows your shop's name and logo, the invoice's lines, any discount, the tax, what's been paid so far and what's owing. They choose Pay and the amount by card, and finish on Stripe's secure checkout. Their card details never reach you or OnSite.
When it goes through, the page thanks them and shows Paid once the payment reaches you, usually within a minute. On your side, the payment appears on the invoice as a credit card payment.
If the invoice is already paid, the page says so. If the link is old or mistyped, the page offers your phone number instead.
A card payment taken this way can be refunded straight back to the card. See Refund a payment.
